K-12 Arkansas Science Framework by Grades and Courses

**State Science Tests - Grade 5 & 7 are tested on the benchmark exams and High School Biology has an end of course exam.

See updated Science Equipment & Labs for K-12.

High School Science Course Development and Approval: Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology, and the AP Sciences have their own frameworks and do not need to have a course approval form submitted to the Arkansas Department of Education.  Other science courses (Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Oceanography, International Baccalaurate Sciences, Active Physics, Geology, Astronomy, and Meteorology) will need a course submission.  Earth Science is no longer an approved course for High School.  School with this approval will have to reapply with a Geology course or choose another courses.

ASTA has develop Course Outlines and Connections to the Science Frameworks for Botany, Zoology, Geology, and Astronomy.  These outlines are based on the Arkansas Department of Education's Science Framework.  The other science course mentioned above are rare, and schools will need to develop their own outlines and connections.
9-12 Life Sciences Outlines Developed by ASTA
9-12 Physical Sciences Outlines Developed by ASTA

*Both course outlines and connections to the Science Framework must be submitted in the course approval process.

The Arkansas Science Teachers Association (ASTA) has a statewide membership of over 1000 primary, elementary, middle school, high school and college teachers. ASTA is proud that we:

Provides the ASTA Science Newsletter for K-16 teachers (lessons in each issue) four times a year.
Provides the ASTA Website and K-12 science list server (Open to all Arkansans).  To subscribe see below.
Provides training in science education programs for K-16 teachers, and partner in the Arkansas Conference on Teaching.
Provides information on science course development, science labs for all grades, lab safety, and grade level science equipment lists.

Provides a free High School Science Safety CD per school district through the Math/Science Centers at higher education.   Contact your Center for training dates.

Membership in the Arkansas Science Teachers Association is $15.00 per year. Membership is open to any kindergarten through university level teacher of science. About a third of our members teach at the lower grades, another third at the middle grades and the rest teach at the high school and college level. Our main purpose to help each other to do a better job at teaching science to Arkansas students.
