PURPOSE:

The Arkansas Heritage Award is designed to give Cub Scout recognition for studying prominent sites of historical significance to the State of Arkansas. By visiting historical sites , buildings, and monuments, Cubs can cultivate an appreciation for the people and events that gave Arkansa the former name "The Land of Opportunity".

AWARD:

A patch can be awarded to each Cub that successfully completes the requirements for the award. The embroidered patch can be purchased by the scout leader from the Quapaw Council Scout Shop for $2.00 each. The following patch request form must be completed to purchase the patches.

REQUIREMENTS:

To earn the Arkansas Heritage Award…..a Cub must:

A. Tell when Arkansas became a state. (1836)

B. Answer the following questions:

1. What is the state bird? (Mockingbird)
2. What is the state flower? (Apple Blossom)
3. What is the state tree? (Pine Tree)
4. What is the state motto? (The People Rule)

C. Visit at least three Historical points of interest and explain why each is important. (Below are some suggestions.)

1. Arkansas State Capitol
2. Old State House (First State Capitol)
3. Territorial Capitol in Little Rock
4. Jacksonport (near Newport)
5. Arkansas Post (near Gillett)
6. La Petite Roche
7. Old Museum of Natural History (also known as Old Arsenal) in Little Rock
8. Your local county court house
9. Other local sites may be used at the discretion of the Den Leader/Cub Master.

HOW TO OBTAIN AWARDS:

Fill out the following request form listing all Cubs eligible for the award. Enclose remittance for the patches. Be sure to indicate to whom the patches should be sent. Dean Leaders or Pack Leaders sign each request form.
