Mt. Pinnacle TrekWHAT:The Mt. Pinnacle Trek is an activity of the Quapaw Area Council which involves climbing Mt. Pinnacle, west of Little Rock. Mt. Pinnacle is a 1,011 foot peak which can be climbed in about one hour and is an excellent outing for Cub or Scouts. WHERE:Take Highway 10, west of Little Rock, turn north on Highway 300 and travel to base of Mt. Pinnacle (it will be on the right). REQUIREMENTS:Any Scout or Cub can earn the Trek patch by: 1. Climbing to the top of Mt. Pinnacle 2. Spending at least 30 minutes on a conservation project (the project must be approved by the leader). AWARD:Patches can be purchased by the hike leader at the Quapaw Area Council Office. The cost of the patch is $2.00 each. RECOMMENDATIONS:1. The most urgent need on the mountain is collection of debris. A clean-up project is recommended (trash bags will be needed if you choose to clean-up). 2. Wear shoe or boots with good traction (rubber soles with good ankle support). 3. Be prepared for rain or cool wind during certain times of the year. 4. Such hike items as canteen, first aid kit, camera or binoculars are recommended (see your handbook). 5. Travel up the mountain in small groups (no more than 5) and stay together (prefer adult leader with each group). All groups must be accompanied by responsible adult leader (21 years or older). Recommended ratio is 1 adult to 5 boys. Due to the nature of the terrain, every precaution should be taken to insure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participating. |
