Little Rock Zoo

Scout Leader Information

When you take your scouts on a trip to the Little Rock Zoo, they will learn many new things. This information sheet should help you plan your trip.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Plan early! Call the zoo as soon as you have chosen a date for your trip. Bookings are taken on a first called, first served basis and must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Reservations will only be taken during regular business hours (Monday-Friday) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will be given a reservation number at this time. A MINIMUM of 10 PAYING INDIVIDUALS and a RESERVATION NUMBER ARE REQUIRED TO RECEIVE THE GROUP RATE.

Be prepared! Prepare your students for their visit by discussing what they will see at the zoo. Uniforms are recommended to help you identify your group. Each scout will need a pencil. You may wish to have clipboard for each person. (A piece of cardboard with a rubberband works well.) Dress for the weather!

Plan your day! If you plan to eat lunch at the zoo, you may picnic on the grounds or at the park. If you so desire, you may purchase food at the Zoo Café. If you wish to ride the train, you will need to pay and ride the train as a group. The group rate is $.75 per person. The Zoovenir Gift Shop is on the zoo grounds and has several zoo related items which are less than $1.00.

AT THE ZOO

Collect your groups admission fees from the children and adults and have your reservation number ready. Send (1) group representative with the head count, collected fees, and reservation number to the Cashier's Booth.

Ask for the worksheets (unless you already have them), one (1) zoo map, and a list of the Zoo rules at the front gate. Be sure to cover the rules with the children as well as the attending chaperones once you get inside the zoo. If you need any help answering any of the questions on the worksheet and you see a zoo staff member, be sure to ask them for some help.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

A Zoo Patch can be awarded to each scout that has successfully completed the following requirements:

1) Tour the zoo and observe all areas.
2) Pick up litter as you tour.
3) Complete the Zoo Worksheet.

Patches are available for purchase ($2.00 each) at the council service center by the group leader.
