April Teen Court Hearings:
From Spacious To Compact

On April 16th and April 23rd, Teen Court hearings were held at two different locations. The hearings were packed with action, while the lawyers, bailiff, clerk, and jurors all "strutted their stuff".

The April 16th hearing was held in the Jeffrey Hawkins’ Conference Room. This allowed the trials to be more formal. With the Jeffrey Hawkins Room’s spaciousness, parents and other family members were all welcomed during the trial.

Judge Carl Evans was facing a docket of four cases. Each case proceeded rapidly, even though the jury took the allocated time allowed.

On April 23rd, the compact conference room at the Prosecutor’s Office served as the court room. Judge Dan Turner heard three cases.

The defendants and families were all amazed at the quick time and seemed to be satisfied with their sentencing.

The volunteers continue to put their best foot forward, and we do thank you for volunteerism. So, if you would like more information on volunteering for Teen Court, contact the Pre-Charging Diversion Program at 501-340-8401.

Next Teen Court Volunteer Training Set for June 13, 1998

The Pre-Charging Diversion Program will hold its second teen volunteer training of the year on Saturday, June 13, 1998, in the Jeffrey Hawkins Conference Room (501 W. Markham). Anyone, age 12 to 18, interested in becoming a prosecutor, public defender, bailiff, or court clerk in the Teen Court are encouraged to sign up and attend.
In order to become a lead teen attorney, a volunteer must complete the training session. Anyone who does NOT complete the session can still volunteer. However, to achieve lead attorney status, a volunteer must participate in the training session. A lead teen attorney gets to direct the prosecution or defense of an individual case.
If you would like to volunteer, please call 340-8401 for further information.
