In Memory of
Glenn A. Powell
January 11, 1935 - August 13th, 1997
My close friend, Glenn Powell, went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday morning, August 13th, 1997. He was like a brother to me. Glenn is greatly missed by his loving wife, Roberta, his family and many, many friends. He was the nicest man I ever met. He was a devoted Christian, his faith in God proven by his love for others, and by his work and his life. For many years, Glenn maintained and operated the sound system at Park Hill Baptist Church. I had the privilege to assist him for a few or those years and we have been good friends ever since.
Glenn's death was sudden and
unexpected. It was shocking to hear that such an active and healthy man was quickly
taken away. Glenn died from a heart attack while driving to his workplace,
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Little Rock, Arkansas. He enjoyed his work so
much, that even after retirement, he immediately went back to work in his old office,
doing the valuable work of designing long distance telephone pathways. If you talk
to people on the telephone around Arkansas, you've probably talked over fiber optic
pathways, radio links or other electronics designed and purchased by Glenn Powell.
He was a brilliant man with a constant desire to learn new things. Yet, he would
also seek to humbly share his treasury of knowledge with others. He was unceasingly
kind, gentle and warm hearted. He had a quick wit and a keen sense of humor. I
miss him.
"Glenn, I had many more things to talk to you about. Some, I'll talk to you about later when I meet you up there. We'll have plenty of time to talk. Still some, won't matter anymore."
